Royal Oak FLL

What is FLL?

FLL (FIRST® LEGO® League) is a worldwide program that teaches STEM to children with an engaging, hands-on, team-oriented approach. Students solve engineering challenges and develop research skills by building a unique robot and developing solutions to real-world problems. At the end of each season, the students celebrate their work through friendly competition with teams from several schools.

In the fall of 2023, The Ravens ran FLL in Royal Oak for the first time at Keller elementary for 28 students across 4th and 5th grade. The students worked together to solve challenges in teams of 7-8 with an experienced high school mentor to guide them throughout the season. Each of our four teams built their own Lego-based robot, designed a solution to a global issue, and prepared to compete and present their work to a judging panel at our competition in December. The students learned valuable skills in communication and engineering throughout the season, and had a lot of fun in the process!
