About Royal Oak Robotics Teams

Royal Oak Schools participates in all of the FIRST Robotics Leagues. The include FRC (high school), FTC (middle school), and FLL (elementary school).

Why Join?

Participating in FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics programs can be incredibly beneficial for students. Here are just a few of the things you can get out of these programs:

  • STEM Education Enhancement: FIRST robotics programs provide students with hands-on, innovative STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education experiences. They help develop crucial technical skills in areas like robotics, programming, and engineering design.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Students learn to work effectively in teams, mirroring real-world engineering and business environments. They must collaborate to design, build, and troubleshoot their robots, which fosters communication skills and group problem-solving capabilities.
  • Problem Solving and Critical Thinking: The challenges presented in FIRST competitions require students to use critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills. These are essential skills that can be applied in any academic or professional field.
  • Inspiration for Future Careers: Exposure to the practical applications of STEM through robotics can inspire students to pursue careers in engineering, programming, or other related fields. FIRST often features interactions with professionals from these areas, providing mentorship and insight into potential career paths.
  • Scholarships and Opportunities: Participation in FIRST can lead to scholarship opportunities for college. Many universities and organizations recognize the skills and experiences gained through FIRST, offering designated scholarships to participants.

These benefits make FIRST robotics programs a valuable educational tool for students interested in STEM fields, providing them with early exposure to hands-on engineering tasks and teamwork dynamics.
