The Outpost
Our facility, which we call “The Outpost”, is located at 205 W 2nd Street, in downtown Royal Oak across from the post office. The City of Royal Oak has graciously let us occupy a suite on the ground floor of a parking structure, where we have been able to construct a full-size FRC playing field and maintain a partial workshop. Our heavy machine tools are at Royal Oak Middle School, and we go there when we need to use those machines.
The Outpost is also large enough that we are able to run programs such as our summer robocamps and Saturday FLL program, and even host small events such as scrimmages with other local robotics teams. If you’re in the area, feel free to walk by and look through the windows, or even stop in if we’re open.
Thank you to Royal Oak Schools and the City of Royal Oak for making this educational center possible!
Visiting
If you’re visiting the outpost, please read the information below to ensure that you can find us, and please observe the local traffic and parking patterns to ensure that we’re gracious neighbors. The door to the facility is on 2nd Street, across from the post office, and right behind the USPS mail drop box. 2nd Street is one-way in front of our facility. There are a couple, but not many, 30 minute parking spots in front of the post office. The side of the street in front our facility is marked as a no parking loading zone, and you can use this area to drop your student (or robot or equipment) off, but please pull up well past the post office drop box, so there is chance of you blocking it, or even for someone else to be concerned that you might be. You can also park in the structure itself; this is free for two hours, and 75 cents an hour thereafter. It’s free all day on Sundays. There’s also metered street parking around the area; if you use this, make sure to pay immediately as the enforcement mechanisms are automated.
