Over the past weekend (April 3rd – 4th) the Royal Oak robotics team competed at Troy Athens along with 39 other teams. The first day went well with team 1188 reaching 3rd place and 3548 reaching 11th place. As the competition went on each team had it’s issues of broken lift systems, stacks being knocked over and items becoming tangled within wheels. All of this lead to a bump in placement for team 1188 placing 24th and 3548 placing 33rd of 41 team. Through the struggles team 1188 managed to get noticed by the number one alliance and was chosen to join team 33 (Killer Bees) and team 469 (Las Guerrillas). With their teamwork and strategy team 1188 excelled, aiding to many victories throughout the quarterfinals and semifinals. The excitement didn’t stop there as drivers Helena Matthews and Tyler Mounts remained calm during the finals delivering excellent driving and coordination to win best two of three. Team 33 was essential for quickly creating stacks of six with recycling bins and litter, while team 469 emptied the alliance station of totes following team 33. Congratulations to all the teams and the hard working students on them, this victory makes it back to back for district competitions for Royal oak robotics.
